I'm Platte, a senior backend engineer at HubSpot, based in Lincoln, Nebraska. I work primarily on backend systems at work; on personal projects I tend to reach for Svelte, Elixir, and Cloudflare.

What I actually care about in engineering is mostly leverage. Code that's maintainable enough to come back to without dread. Using AI tools seriously, as a real part of how I work rather than a novelty. Being a teammate who makes the people around them more effective. Thinking like a product person, not just an implementer. And, less glamorously: not shipping bugs.

Outside of work, I live in Lincoln with my wife and our two young kids. Most of my time goes to them. What's left tends to land on:

• Guitar, and an ongoing interest in pedals and gear culture.
• Chess, mostly on Lichess.
• D&D — long campaigns, character voices, the whole thing.
• Writing fiction, slowly.
